OOZING STYLE & CHARACTER WHETHER ON LAND OR AT SEA

Stepped in history and oozing with Georgian character, Lymington nestles perfectly between acres of ancient forest and boasts views of Solent estuary.

Past centuries have seen the town build boats for kings, become a leading salt producer and as recent as the 1970s was the country’s leading oyster fishery. Once a mecca for smuggling rum, spices and tobacco, legend has it a network of secret tunnels exist to this day.

The high street is lined with independent shops, boutiques and restaurants, and every Saturday the town bustles with its charter market that attracts artisan producers from across the south coast. In July, the town comes alive with their Seafood Festival although with such a strong, vibrant community you can enjoy a calendar full of antique fayres, film screenings or music events.

Lymington strikes the perfect balance for those looking for an outdoors active lifestyle or more mature buyers seeking peace and tranquillity by the sea with all important amenities close at hand that includes St Barbes Museum and art gallery and its very own hospital.

The town boasts three marinas, two sailing clubs and is home to Olympic sailing champions that include Sir Ben Ainslie whose feats are honored with a gold pillar box at the bottom of the high street. Although legend has it, the initial coats of paint were applied by a local bar owner in the middle of the night, miffed Sir Ben’s acquaintance with the town were not being properly recognised!

Sailing is very much in the blood of our Lymington Estate Agents and Spencers is proud to support weekly race nights at Royal Lymington Yacht Club.

For young families, local schools are some of the best in the region, all being rated ‘good or outstanding’ by Ofsted which, combined with excellent sports clubs or the opportunity to get out on the water makes the town a highly desirable place to live.

It’s, therefore, no wonder this bustling market town was voted in the top twelve ‘booming market towns for the best quality of life’ by the Telegraph which means buyers seeking properties with a bit of wow factor with Solent views will need to be prepared to pay for the privilege.

Properties in Lymington had an overall average price of £539,437 over the last year with the majority of sales being detached properties selling for an average of £792,474 according to Rightmove. With prices are up 15% on the last year, it doesn’t mean buyers looking for a lifestyle by the sea have missed the boat according to Spencers Lymington Estate Agents director Rob Batten;

“Being Lymington locals ourselves, the team are on hand to help seek out properties that fit budgets of all sizes. Just north or to the west of the high street there are plenty of well-healed roads filled with two or three-bed character properties perfect for young couples or families looking for that next ‘rung up’ the ladder.”

“Given the town’s history and architecture buyers can expect period properties filled with charm as well as newer builds. As the leading Lymington Estate Agents, we’re delighted to receive instructions to act on some of the most exclusive properties in the area, but it’s also crucial to have that local knowledge to help buyers of all budgets.” Concluded Rob Batten.

Lymington’s location means commutes to either Bournemouth or Southampton are around 40mins away. Trains run regularly from the town’s station with one change at Brockenhurst and you’ll be pulling into London Waterloo in just over an hour and thirty minutes. Or, turn in the opposite direction, board the Wightlink ferry and you can be exploring the relaxed charms of the Isle of Wight in under an hour.

Is Lymington the town that has it all? We certainly think it is a strong contender, the best way is to get in touch and come and see for yourself. The Spencers Lymington Estate Agents team would be delighted to give you a guided tour.
