Bisterne Cottage lies about a mile and a half from the centre of, arguably, one of the most beautiful and sought after villages in The New Forest, ideally situated to make full use of all the wonderful facilities the Forest has to offer. Whether it be sailing at nearby Lymington (12 miles) or golf at one of the many courses in the area including nearby Burley and Brockenhurst with its mainline railway station (8 miles, Waterloo 90 minutes) The market town of Ringwood is but a short drive away (5 miles). The larger shopping towns of Southampton (20 miles) to the east and Bournemouth (16 miles) to the west, both with their airports, are easily accessible.

A covered porch and front door leads into the entrance hall. This leads through to all principle reception rooms. Immediately in front of you is the stairway leading up to the first floor and directly to the right is the second reception room which overlooks the front of the property. This room is currently being used as snug but would also make a lovely study or dining area. There is a fireplace in the centre of the room giving the room a cosy feel. Following on from this to the left is the sitting room, a comfortable size offering dual aspects to the front and the rear with a large bay window with a window seat overlooking the rear garden. Also in the centre of the room is a large traditional fireplace. There is a door from the sitting room to the utility room containing useful work and cupboard space, tilled flooring, a built in sink and plumbing for domestic appliances. Continuing down the entrance hall is the dining/breakfast room which houses the boiler and further provides access to the cloakroom and kitchen. This good sized room with solid wood floors and a window to the side is the perfect place for family meals. The country style kitchen to the right of the dining room is well equipped with plentiful work and cupboard space. Continuing up to the first floor the master bedroom contains a fireplace and two windows overlooking the front of the property and the fields beyond. Further to that there is another good sized double bedroom, which also looks over the front aspect of the property and out onto the countryside. There is a further single bedroom which overlooks the rear aspect of the property. The first floor also benefits from a spacious family bathroom which contains a walk in shower, bath, WC and basin.

Approaching the property from a country track, there are double wooden gates which lead into a gravel driveway providing ample parking. Attached to the left of the property is a single garage. The drive continues around the right of the property to the rear garden, where there is a further gravelled area ideal for hosting an outdoor table and chairs. The rear garden is laid mainly to lawn bordered by mature hedgerow and a stable block consisting of two stables and a store. Further to this, through a gateway, is a further area of lawned garden which could be used as a holding paddock

Living in Burley

The first Spencers New Forest office was established here in Burley, a honeypot village that feels untouched by time with its traditional cafes, cider farm, gift shops and tales of old smuggling routes, witches and dragons.

This is the New Forest on holiday as imagined by visitors: quaint and old-fashioned with ponies wandering down the high street. In Burley there’s a perpetual feeling of having escaped, that you are away from it all, especially as it is tucked in the lee of wooded slopes.

In fact Burley has easy access to the A31 (across heathland with spectacular views) and routes west to Bournemouth and east to Southampton, while the mainline station at Brockenhurst is only a short drive away across the Forest.

There’s a lovely sense of community in Burley and it is noticeable that once people move here many are reluctant to move out of the area. A range of activities to enjoy locally includes cycling, horse riding, coarse fishing and Burley Golf Club with a nine-hole heathland course.

The property market is dominated by picturesque thatched cottages and large country homes that feel discreetly hidden away, many with access to open Forest.
