Wish you were here?

In the height of summer, holidays and heatwaves persuade many of us to reconsider our lifestyle choices. We hanker after a life beside the seaside fanned by coastal breezes, enjoying morning strolls along the shore and evenings spent paddle boarding or raising a glass as the sun dips below the horizon’s waterline. This is not an impossible dream.

The answer is here in Hampshire. Combine your working life in town with a holiday lifestyle on the New Forest coast. The New Forest may not be known for its coastline, however this is an enchanting landscape of glamorous marinas, retro seawater baths, wild coastal marsh, shingle beaches fringed by beach huts, quaysides for crabbing, and a pebble spit or two leading to medieval forts. All this against a backdrop of wide views across the Solent to the Isle of Wight.

The Solent offers some of the finest sailing in the world, and Lymington, sited where Lymington River runs into the Solent, is arguably the UK’s sailing capital, with a choice of marinas and sailing clubs. One London escapee described this market town as ‘Richmond by the Sea’ due to its modish selection of boutiques, cafes and restaurants. It certainly enjoys a year-round liveliness. That is another advantage of this coastline: it is not defined by a traditional holiday season.

As for property: discover luxury riverside apartments, Georgian townhouses, romantic cottages, once the haunt of smugglers, and charming farmhouses down winding country lanes, far from the madding crowd. Here is your escape.
